Who we are

Designtree began late one night in a small studio in industrial Wellington, New Zealand. As Tim puts it: “Rebecca and I were both running our own design practises from our shared studio. “Why not just amalgamate it all into one entity?” Rebecca asked. I read between the lines and a few months later I asked her to marry me. Rebecca said yes but she was also serious about joining our companies together. I saw the wisdom in her words, so we did just that.” Now we’re really excited about growing Designtree from a union of our talents and experience.

Trees grow strongest in forests, so we are also collaborating with other designers and institutions who share our appreciation for thoughtful and beautiful works. We enjoy working with both established and emerging designers.

What we do

We develop innovative furniture and lighting for homes and businesses. We create our own products and do work on commission. We work closely with a variety of clients on their interior/exterior projects.

We design everything with lots of care and attention. We search to great lengths for materials with the best social and environmental credentials. All of our products are made in New Zealand.

Our mission is to create beautiful experiences, through objects that are well-made and well-loved.

Our pieces are designed to age gracefully so people can develop rewarding and lasting relationships with them. We strive to make products that resist obsolescence. We use materials and processes that reflect our respect for our customers, ourselves and our surroundings.
