Frankie Range development

The new Frankie Range has benefited from a little break over summer and we’re moving forward with the designs with some renewed vigour.  Late last year we substituted the aluminum shade for a recycled felt shade and we are very excited about using this new eco product in conjunction with beautiful FSC certified South Island Beech.

The range has solidified into a family of 5 products: A single pendant lamp, a double pendant lamp, a table lamp, a floor lamp, and a coat stand.

We’ve had our application to exhibit at the ICFF in New York accepted so in May we’ll be premiering the prototypes at America’s largest annual furniture fair to gauge the popularity of the new range and see if people are as excited about it as we are.

Early Concepts for a new lighting and furniture range

Rebecca and I have been sketching away and developing some ideas around a new range of lighting and furniture that can be made from a few simple components made from timber and aluminum.  Below are some of the rough timber, card and foam core mockups that indicate the general idea and form of the pieces.  The floor lamp, table lamp and pendant all share the same components making this a modular system.

Party Pils

The wonderful people at Cloudy Bay Winery threw a party recently for the opening of their new project – The Shack.  Apart from the amazing wine (of course) the food was incredible, the music was groovy (thank you Mr Nathan Haines) and the Shack Guesthouse featured some beautiful works from some of New Zealand’s top designers.  Orchestrated by architects Tim Greer, and Paul Rolfe, our Pil Lamps hung with designs from David Trubridge, Nathan Goldsworthy, Hayley King (aka Flox), Nigel Whitton, Ben Masters and Sue and Gary from The Boiler Room

Designed to delight

The lovely people at NZ House & Garden came over for a cup of tea earlier this year, took some photos and asked us some questions. We’re pretty chuffed to get a 3 page spread, a big thank you to Rebecca Lancashire for the write up and Paul McCredie for taking the photos! Check out the June issue of NZ House and Garden for the full article.

Nectar Wins Best Commercial & Green Product

Four awards are offered within The Edge, these are judged by a panel of leading Australian and international designers.  Rebecca’s Nectar lamps gained the admiration of the judges and earned the Best Commercial Product award as well as the Best Green Product Award.

The judges comments about the Nectar Pendant Lamp Collection were:

“Extremely well resolved modular concept, striking and original, unusual, scalable and flexible, economical and excellent commercial potential.”

“Here is a product that does not look like an eco product yet displays deep green thinking, proof that good design must embrace sustainability, a product that is emotional, a tribute to nature and makes post industrial waste attractive.”

We are totally chuffed to have received this recognition for Rebecca’s designs.  The reaction from architects and designers to the Nectar lamps as well as our other products over the fair has been really positive and we’re really excited to be entering the Australian market.

New Standup Laptop and Book Stand Video

We’ve had a few people receive our Standups as gifts and due to the lack of instructions they have not really known what to do with them, so we’ve made a little video showing what Standup does and how it goes together (see below). Also our fantastic intern Julie is working with us to develop some instructions which we will slip in the envelope with Standup.
